Dating from 1900 and inaugurated in 2003, the San Gallo Palace Hotel takes its name from the medieval gateway marking the Florence nobleman's entrance to the city. Modern guestrooms in warm colours with smart traditional decor and dark wood furnishings; all extend to marble bathrooms with telephones and hair dryers. In-room comforts include coffee/tea makers, minibars and satellite TV with Internet access and pay movies.
After a busy day of sightseeing guests can enjoy cocktails and light snacks amid the marble columns and bright fabrics of the 24-hour American bar, which extends to an outdoor seating area in the hotel's rear garden during the summer months. Guests arriving by car find private parking. Hotel guests are invited to make complimentary use of a nearby fitness centre. Information on local attractions (including the San Lorenzo Market at one kilometre, the cathedral and the Pizza San Marco, both at 800 metres), is available from concierge located alongside reception. Approximate driving time to Florence Vespucci Airport is 15 minutes and distance is 6 kilometres (4 miles). By car, take A1 Motorway in the direction of Firenze Centro. Although the airport is very close to Florence, traffic can be bad in the city, so guests are advised to allow 20 minutes. The airport is a short taxi ride from town (costing 15 EUR) although it is also possible to take the half-hourly bus, which transports passengers to Santa Maria Novella Station, in the centre of Florence....
